Rust is a problem that tends to affect most of us at some stage in life, whether it’s a gaping hole forming on your car or some of your fixings going rusty due to harsh weather, we will usually have seen some sort of rust issue.
Rust can affect many things and we look at the most common below.
Cars / Motorcycles – As any owner of a car will tell you, at some stage they will have dealt with rust issues especially in the older models. Most noticeably around the wheel arches and doors, you will often find the worst cases of rust in these areas and if you leave the problem alone and don’t find a solution, your car can soon become a mist of brown jagged edges and quite a mess.
Caravans / Park Homes – Many caravan and static home owners do not realise the issue of rust and that it can affect them, especially if you are down by the sea or in a very active weather situation. If you own a static home it is vital you check for rust on the underlying structure regularly and think about preventative measures like using the leading CAT3 technology.
Buildings / Structures – Because rust is simply another, yet more common term for corrosion and most buildings have some sort of steel or metal structure, rust has been known to affect buildings and other types of structures. Because most of the structure on a property is normally internal it is usually less of a problem, but there have been instances of buildings built many years ago suffering with rust issues.
Screws / Nails / Equipment – If you look at any old wooden fence or barrier, if its old enough you will no doubt be able to spot the old rusty nail or screw, or maybe a clip that was once solid but is now crumbling away. Technology has now improved to a degree that screws and nails are last longer, but with so many of these little master pieces already doing their work, the older makes will at some stage go rusty and become less of a holding piece.
Beating rust can be quite a simple process. There are many passive products on the market which are normally called some kind of anti rust treatment, but most involve applying a solution to a problematic rust issue. There are high tech active products available, like the CAT3 (Electronic rust protector) and Corrosion Block (ultra thin barrier film) which stabilise existing rust and actively fight the progression of new rust.
They have both been tested extensively and have a proven performance record.
