Dear Dennis,
You will recall that I own a static caravan sited near the coast at Kirkcudbright. Some two years after purchase I became aware that the coastal atmosphere was having a very detrimental effect on the non galvanised chassis of the caravan.
Any attempt to treat the chassis with conventional ‘painted on’ corrosion inhibitors was impractical due to the van being located on a hillside and access to large parts of the underside restricted by the slope.
On your advice I fitted a ‘Park Home’ pack of two ‘Cats’ plus a ‘Watson’ transformer. The system has been running faultlessly for three years now and I am pleased to report that any further corrosion has been almost completely arrested.
It almost beggars belief that such a ‘fit and forget’ system could be so effective but a small test area, taken back to bare metal, has displayed a mere dusting of surface corrosion and gone no worse since fitting the system. I also tried to catch the system out by attaching two hinges on the underside of the caravan. One in contact with the chassis and one suspended from it. The one in contact has displayed hardly any corrosion whilst the suspended hinge is in an advanced state of corrosion.
In simple terms, the system works far beyond my expectations and I have no hesitation in recommending it to any and all owners of static caravans and park homes.
To whom it may concern,
Due to the appearance or rust on the split chassis of my five year old chalet I decided to have a Park home corrosion protection Kit fitted.
The kit comprised of two heavy duty Cats and a Watson power unit and was fitted in October 2008.
To check if the unit was working correctly, I fitted a test piece comprising of two ‘L’ shaped mild steel brackets, one of which was attached to the chassis the other suspended alongside with a plastic tie-wrap this having no contact with the chassis.
To date there has been a very slight appearance of rust on the attached bracket, whilst the unattached is heavily corroded.
As this chalet is sited on the west coast of Scotland close to the sea, I feel that the Cat system will reduce the progression of rust on the chassis.
